Plastic straws, despite being one of the top 10 objects found during coastal cleanups, are an essential part of the daily lives of people with mobility disabilities. Plastic straws provide a level of autonomy for people with varying levels of ability, but substitutes–such as wood or paper straws–can, at best, be inconvenient and, at worst, pose health and safety risks.
