We’re living in a moment that demands powerful storytelling about science and the environment.
Founded in 2009, Planet Forward is a project hosted at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs that teaches, celebrates, and rewards environmental storytelling by college students.
Emmy Award-winning journalist Frank Sesno formed Planet Forward to empower new voices and lead a global conversation on the planet’s future.
Our project works with passionate students from a wide range of fields and equips them with hands-on storytelling skills, dedicated mentorship, and a powerful network. Through its publication platform, Planet Forward empowers these students to share their unique voices with a global, engaged audience.
This experience is a direct career catalyst, launching new professionals into impactful roles in conservation, media, policy, and sustainability.
Planet Forward ultimately creates a new generation of multifaceted leaders who are reaching new audiences with stories of action and hope.
College and university students, faculty, and administrators can get involved with Planet Forward in a number of engaging and capacity-building ways. Students can submit their stories for publication; enter our annual Storyfest contest; attend workshops and the annual Planet Forward Summit; and apply for fellowships and storytelling expeditions.
Subscribe to the weekly Planet Forward newsletter to see the latest inspiring stories from students and be the first to know about upcoming events and learning opportunities!
