Meet the Crypt Keepers of Oakwood Cemetery
Built in 1859, Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse, N.Y., is a site of great historical value to local residents. It’s also 160 acres and requires a community effort to maintain and preserve the natural areas of this solemn space.
In come the Crypt Keepers, a project of Historic Oakwood Cemetery Preservation Association. This group has been working to remove invasive species from the cemetery grounds and reintroduce native species. Their preservation work not only keeps the cemetery a natural and welcoming place, but also fosters a sense of community amongst the group members.
