Broome County’s fight against fracking
Beginning in 2008, residents of Broome County in upstate New York spent years advocating for a ban on hydraulic fracking at both the local and state level. A coalition of community members from Binghamton, a city in Broome County, worked together to fight for the health of New Yorkers and of the natural environment. Co-founder of the New York Energy Democracy Alliance Adam Flint spearheaded this grassroots anti-fracking campaign alongside local activists and politicians.
In 2014, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo implemented a ban on hydraulic fracking. While this served as a major victory for the environmental activists from Broome, a future of independence from fossil fuels continues to be fought for today.
Our video takes viewers through the journey of Adam Flint and other key activists in their pursuit of a cleaner, greener, and fracking-free New York. Conversations and initiatives to bring fracking to Broome County are far from over; Flint and others share insight into how residents are currently rallying together to fight for their community.
