The United States Energy Security Council is focused on diminishing the inordinate strategic importance of oil, which stems from its virtual monopoly over transportation fuel. The council is composed of leading figures including the former President of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, retired Admiral and current president of the American Council on Renewable Energy, Dennis McGinn, and former Director of Central Intelligence, James Woolsey.
