Daria Nastasia

Planet Forward Video Production Assistant | George Washington University

Major / Minor: Political Science, Journalism & Mass Communication, Film Studies

Administrator

Daria Nastasia is a documentarian, videojournalist, and researcher passionate about amplifying marginalized voices through visual storytelling. As a first-generation immigrant from Romania, she views storytelling as a powerful tool for empowerment.

She currently works as the Arts and Culture News Assistant for PBS News Hour, where she helps produce, write, and source video for CANVAS, a regular segment on the show. Daria worked for two years as a Video Assistant for Planet Forward, a digital environmental journalism initiative, where she directed, filmed, and edited both short- and long-form videos.

Daria graduated summa cum laude from George Washington University, where she studied Journalism, Political Science, and Film Studies.

Her documentary short, The Ban, explores the racist history of swimming restrictions in the Potomac River and questions who has access to public resources. The film was featured in the D.C. Environmental Film Festival, the nation's largest environmental film festival. Her work has also led to opportunities with PBS News Hour as a Gwen Ifill Fellow and with Meridian Hill Pictures on a feature documentary.
