Columbia University

“Columbia makes strides both large and small,” said Columbia’s Senior Executive Vice President Robert Kasdin, “from pilot projects to industry-leading research, toward reducing the University’s environmental footprint. Programs that touch upon everything from waste reduction to energy conservation help us move the needle toward a more sustainable place to live, learn and work.”

One of the school’s largest projects, the International Research Institute for Climate & Society at Columbia’s Earth Institute, works to enhance society’s capability to understand, anticipate and manage the impacts of climate in order to improve human welfare and the environment, especially in developing countries. The IRI conducts this mission through strategic and applied research, education, capacity building, and by providing forecasts and information products with an emphasis on practical and verifiable utility and partnership.
