My name is Kayla Smernoff and I am from the Bay Area. I’m a graduate of Howard University’s journalism program, where I built a strong foundation in reporting, multimedia production, and visual and written storytelling.
In the fall, I’m starting at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and pursuing a master’s degree in sociology. I am looking forward to studying media, culture, and power.
I am passionate about media, specifically journalism, as a calling and a career path. I’m especially interested in how journalism and social science can work together.
Public spaces like national parks should be accessible to everyone. However, the complex relationship between African Americans and public spaces is part of a historical legacy of disenfranchisement. Keep reading
