Lily John

Planet Forward Correspondent | SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry

Contributor

Lily is a sophomore majoring in Environmental Studies at the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry. It is her first semester in upstate New York, so she’s still adjusting to the physical and political climate. Having grown up in California, it is safe to say that she is not prepared for a Syracuse winter.

Her affinity for the environment was first cultivated by her elementary school, aptly named Walden (after Thoreau’s famous pond). There she received an education that prioritized kindness to others and to the environment. Her interest in environmental issues grew throughout high school, and culminated with her attending SUNY-ESF.

She is interested in law and policy, and believes that is the area where she can make the most difference in protecting the planet. She is also passionate about environmental justice, as it must go hand in hand with environmental protection and preservation. After college she hopes to gain experience in the field of sustainability and environmental advocacy before considering pursuing a master’s degree to further her education.
