I am a senior journalism major and anthropology minor at the University of Florida specializing in environmental journalism with expertise in agriculture and botany. Journalism has always felt like a calling. It weaves my love for words, crafted from a young age when I read books every chance I could, my curiosity and my desire to hear stories.
When I read environmental pieces, I feel a childlike joy: the kind where I want to dig my hands into the soil. My love for the Earth begins in the garden, with seeds cupped in my hands, medicinal weeds on my tongue, and in the forest, breathing in Florida longleaf pines as their leaves whistle in the breeze. I want the love to also manifest as a pen in hand.
I feel immense gratitude when someone shares their story openly with me. And I feel a joy of responsibility in making sure I do the story justice, making it scientifically accurate, compelling and accessible to all.
