Majoring in environmental studies can often times be disheartening. We see and hear about all the awful things that we're constantly doing to our planet, but all it takes is witnessing one small act to realize that people are ready and willing to fight for the environment. For me, this was during my time as a summer camp counselor when one of my six year old campers came up to me with a piece of trash he had found on the beach. He told me he was saving the turtles. This absolutely warmed my heart and helped rekindle the flame inside me fighting for the planet. It may be exhausting, but boy was it worth it to a hear a young child was ready to save some turtles. The moral of my story is that together we will decide the fate of our planet. I am an Eckerd College student majoring in environmental science and anthropology, and I am ready to be a part of the change that is coming in 2020.
