Emily Hammermeister

Planet Forward Correspondent | Loyola University Chicago

My name is Emily Hammermeister. I'm a senior at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Studio Art. I grew up in a suburb of the Chicagoland area, right in the backyard of huge refineries, spewing who knows what into the atmosphere. It always made me feel strange every time I would see them, but it wasn't until I took an environmental science course in high school (Thanks Ms. Siegers!) that that strange feeling transformed into a passion. Since then, my mind seems to solely think about one thing: the environment. What can I do to make a difference?

I am interested in the science, politics, and social injustice that surrounds environmental science. And although I am uncertain in my final career choice as of now, I believe that journalism is a gateway for change.

Let's start now. Let's start talking.

If you haven't yet read this article, this is one of my favorites and is the epitome of sound environmental journalism. Absolutely spectacular!
