Daniel Reed is on a mission to move the Planet Forward through powerful, inspiring stories.

He is executive director of Planet Forward, leading the team and project since 2013 and has served the GW community for more than 10 years.

A passion for science and story started early for Daniel, as a volunteer at his local science museum and planetarium in southwest Virginia. It's also in his blood. Daniel grew up around the news business, where his father spent more than 30 years as a broadcast meteorologist and science educator in the Roanoke Valley.

Today, Daniel has elevated Planet Forward into an important global convener and digital platform that inspires and empowers a new generation of storytellers focused on environment, science and sustainability. Daniel has overseen five Planet Forward Summits on environmental storytelling, bringing together world-leading journalists, content creators, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers and college students in Washington, D.C. He leads and organizes storytelling expeditions that have taken students all over the world and the United States, from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil to the inside passage of Alaska.

He is a frequent guest lecturer on sustainability and environmental storytelling, and teaches “Sustainability Reporting” at GW with Planet Forward founder, Frank Sesno. Daniel proudly served in the first White House intern class for the Obama Administration as a video intern in the White House Photo Office, under the direction of Pete Souza.
