Hi! My name is Anika Pillai, and I am currently a student at George Washington University studying political science as a freshman. As a political science major, I want to harness the power in politics and use the system to create an environmentally and socially just future. I worked in state-level politics throughout high school, gaining support for environmental protection legislation working with environmental lobby firms and local environmental justice programs that center indigenous communities. I wrote my first article in my hometown newspaper, the Portland Tribune, on the devastating effects of climate change on Portland, Oregon. I moved to DC to continue this work on a federal level and join new programs such as Planet Forward at GW. I first gained interest in Planet Forward after taking the "world on a plate" course with Professor Scully last semester and continued pursuing my interest in sustainability in the "Intro to Sustainability" class this semester. I hope to learn and listen to new perceptive and stories surrounding climate change through this organization and maybe share a couple of my own.
