I am a junior at Northwestern University studying journalism and environmental policy. I grew up in a commuting suburb of New York City — okay, fine — New Jersey. My interest in the environment stems from a life-changing class I took my senior year of high school. My teacher, who formerly worked with NASA, encouraged us to think of climate change in terms of adaptation, creativity and social justice. I care about the environment because environmental issues are human issues, period. After I leave campus, I hope to pursue a reporting fellowship at a publication oriented toward urban issues and sustainability. Check out this map of New York City’s shadows by season!
