Darren Samuelsohn, POLITICO’s Senior Energy and Environmental reporter, has called the Democratic defeat in Tuesday’s elections a “day of reckoning” if they voted “yes” on the climate bill in a post-election blog on POLITICO. In this webisode, he defends his view, citing Rep Boucher, who voted for the climate bill and lost. Samuelsohn “has no doubt” that cap and trade was a factor in the election.

I don’t think energy policy is going to be a priority for the Republican Congress, unfortunately. I think they’d rather spend their time “reigning in spending,” repealing the health care bill, trying to extend the Bush tax cuts, etc. Like Samuelsohn says, any energy policy progress will be incremental and based on very basic things that both parties can find agreement on.
