Planet Forward host Frank Sesno asks the question, what role should religious institutions play in addressing issues of climate change? In answer, one filmmaker from UNC’s “Powering a Nation” initiative explores how religious leaders are grappling with climate change and what they feel their responsibility should be both to the earth and to their flock.

  1. In Tucson St. Francis of the Foothills where I use to live went green and now a Franciscan Catholic Center I attend on occasion has a Gospel in Action and this Saturday they have allowed me to give out conservation tips at a table. You can make copies at my web site http://www.convenientsolutions.us I have been preaching the green concept since the late 80′s and amazed how much futher we need to go. I think churches have a big effect and should stop using religion to live in denial what is happening. In the 50′s we added 5 million people a year now we add over 65 million people to exponential growth. We think that we survived the last 7000 year and it worked but his time it is not going to unless we live simpler and create a green world economy. Things are changing but the Russ Limbaugh and Tea Party people just would rather argue and think free markets will solve our problems. They are out touch. I recommend people reading Herman Daly’s book :For the Common Good” and Ecology Commerce” by Paul Hawkens. Great reading.

  2. This is my first visit. Great site and a great question. It would be very easy for the religions of the world to make a huge impact on the environmet. Stop consuming animal flesh. There are so many facts that explaining the environmental holocaust being perpetrated by the collective meat industry. It is not necessary.

Every action has a reaction. Global climate change is one of the reactions to widespread animal slaughter.
