Our debut on Bloomberg Television’s “Bloomberg West” features Verdant Power, which has started a project in New York City’s East River to begin harnessing energy from the rise and fall of the oceans tide.
The company is developing the technology to drop turbines into any tidal basin and harness the power of the natural currents. There are only a few places in the world where this technology can be used, and the installation will supply only a small fraction of the power that New York City needs.
The first generation of turbines broke within the first day of being built, so the company partnered with National Renewable Energy Labs to develop the next generation of turbines that can withstand the powerful forces it’s dealing with. What can be done to make this technology a viable solution? Weigh in below.
