BP has coated many sea birds with disgusting oil. They are also in line for Federal Fast Track money for the below wind project. It would be next to the Colorado River, (Lake Mead) not far from a California Condor area. Yes, the Obama Administration may give British Petrolium as much as 300 million dollars up front to build this wind project which will destry over 35,000 acres of terrestrial ecosystem. I guess destroying marine ecosystems is not enough. Why would the democrats reward these criminals even more?

The Bureau of Land Management, Kingman Office, is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the potential effects of issuing rights-of-way for a large-scale wind energy project and ancillary facilities in northwestern Arizona.
BP Wind Energy of North America proposes building the Mohave County Wind Farm project comprising up to 335 wind turbine generators on federally managed lands in Mohave County. The site – 41,577 acres of public land — is in the White Hills area about 40 miles northwest of Kingman and 20 miles southeast of Hoover Dam.
The project is anticipated to provide up to 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Up to 235 wind turbine generators are proposed for the first phase. Ten additional wind turbine generators could be installed on adjacent private lands in the first phase. Transmission lines are planned to connect to existing Western Area Power Administration lines.

Why give money to BP now?! I just heard they might be going bankrupt within the month: http://www.energyboom.com/policy/oil-spill-fallout-bp-shares-plummeting-again-today-bankruptcy-speculation-flies
I’m not one to oppose wind turbines, because birds and other species face far greater damage from pollution from fossil fuels than from wind turbines, but there have to be more reputable companies to be giving federal monies to for this project.

Bird mortality should not be judged by the worst threat only. Just because more would die in an oil spill does not make pacing a wind farm in a migratory bird area a good idea. The best case scenario is that the avreage 400 foot wind turbine would kill 4 birds a year. Multiply that by 350 and you have a significant number. The 4 a year number comes from the wind industry so that is about 4 times less than estimates from some biologists. The tuth is, no one is willing to study it. If only four large raptors are killed (X 350) that can reduce a population. Especially older birds.
Will wind energy replace oil?Nno, not the way America uses oil. Is it a good idea to kill birds in other areas on top of the oil spill? no. Should we plan where we put wind farms or do we just listen to T Boone Pickens because he is a billionaire? Should we have a knee jerk reaction to destroy another ecosystem to apologize for the gulf spill? No.
Should we expolre roof top solar options and the egg beater type turbines before we kill ecosystems? Yes!
The oil spill should tell us that we should not trash the planet for energy. Oil or wind!

Hey Steve – Check it out: http://www.ecoseed.org/en/general-green-news/green-business-news/green-business-news/7617
Looks like BP is going to keep up their renewable energy projects. It’s strange to me that an oil company is investing so heavily in renewables and at the same time fighting efforts that would make them more profitable.
