The Middlebury Solar Decathlon is one of 20 collegiate teams that will compete in the 2011 Solar Decathlon competition, which is held by the Department of Energy every two years at the National Mall in Washington D.C. This competition is one of the most ambitious and inspiring events in the country, challenging teams to demonstrate inventive clean-energy solutions by building solar-powered houses that feature cost-effective, energy-efficient construction and incorporate energy-saving appliances and renewable energy systems. The Middlebury team “Self-Reliance” is currently finishing designs and constructing their entry house, which combines the best aspects of a traditional New England farmhouse with the efficient technologies of today.

We’d be honored, Susanna! We would love to be featured by National Geographic’s blog, and appreciate your invitation! That goes right along with our vision of bringing this Solar Decathlon project, and the issue of sustainable living, to a broader community. We hope our little solar-powered house will light up a lot more than just Middlebury!
