"Clean Tech: What technology are you, your lab or your workplace developing that will improve how we generate or use energy?"

Kathryn Johnson, an electrical engineer at the Colorado School of Mines, studies large utility-scale wind turbines. Kathryn’s research aims to make the turbines more efficient in order to capture as much of the wind’s energy as possible. We also visited NSF’s National Center for Atmospheric Research, where scientists are working with local utility companies to create an advanced wind energy prediction system. Using data from sensors mounted on each turbine, the system generates a forecast specific to each turbine on a wind farm. This helps the utility company provide as much energy as possible from clean sources.

  1. What a pleasant surprise to see Bill Mahoney and his wind research on your site! Can we get a high def copy of the footage and the final productions to show for a period of time in our exhibits space? it would be a great addition to our “Climate Future” segment of our exhibit space.

    THANKS!

    Teresa

  2. How the frequency of Windmill out is maintained to 50Hz or 60Hz?
