http://MPGomatic.com gets the word on the Bright Idea, a plug-in hybrid electric work van from Bright Automotive. Lyle Shuey, Bright’s VP of Marketing & Sales explains what’s unique about the PHEV Idea.

The Bright Idea promises a 40 mile all-electric range, and relies on its light weight, aerodynamics, and low rolling resistance tires to provide an estimated 40 miles per gallon while running on its gasoline engine.

This segment was shot at the 2010 Washington Auto Show / Electric Drive Transportation Conference in January, 2010.

General Motors and Bright Automotive have just announced a strategic partnership.

  1. That mobile office is cool!

  2. It’s a big desk on wheels! There are some nifty touches in the Idea. The carbon fiber bulkhead is quite unique.

  3. @JStack – Cool … I absolutely agree about picking the right vehicle for the right job and It sounds like the PHEV-modded Prius fits your needs perfectly!

We’ll have to see about the Tesla Model S. There’s little chance that it’ll ship by late 2011.

I’m looking at picking up an older VW Jetta TDI this week. With some simple mods, it will get into the 50+ MPG highway range without using any petroleum, whatsoever.
