All of Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Award Finalists were asked to create a 1-3 minute video highlighting their climate innovation on campus. Our online community was asked to decide who the most innovative campus was. After more than 14,000 votes were cast, we are proud to announce our winner: William Patterson University, of Wayne, New Jersey.
They will be presented with a certificate that denotes their victory at the GW Moving the Planet Forward Conference, on April 17th. As with all groups who submit videos to Planet Forward, every school will have the opportunity to be featured in blog posts on The Huffington Post and National Geographic’s Great Energy Challenge blog, in our pieces on television, in our webisodes, or in other public outreach opportunities.

Great sustainability initiative! We need to be mindful of the future of our planet. Spelman women lead out front to save our planet and project its existence for another century or more!

Don’t vote for GCC! They waste tons of water every day watering their stupid grass! Conservation only applies to them when it comes to buying cheap toilet paper!

Vote for Luther! They have found the ideal combination of nuts-and-bolts infrastructure overhaul, inspiring projects like a large-scale wind turbine and solar array on campus, and student-led innovation/campus education. Truly a “model, not a mirror.” Go Norse!

The beautiful thing about sustainability at Florida Gulf Coast University is that every single student, staff member and faculty member lives it in some form every day they are on campus. Sustainability is not merely a lesson taught by professors and learned by only those students interested in it.The wetlands surrounding the university are a clear reminder to the university community that we must constantly work to reduce our footprint and protect the cycle of life. This is how it should be at every campus. FGCU is truly a wonderful working model! Go Eagles!

DO vote for Glendale Community College. The amount of waste all colleges produce is atrocious.I pass the recycling bins everyday and see that the students are grasping the concept of recycling everything. It keeps the campus clean and the items recycled will one day be used in other products. It is sad to see comments as ignorant as Charles Parker’s comment.
If Charles Parker knew anything about GCC he would also know that the water used to water the “stupid grass” is reclaimed water. Also GCC floods their fields with water collected in the canals to water and maintain the grass and plants since this area used to be orange groves. The watering of these plants and grass help to cool the property and campus so that students are in a more comfortable environment than a concrete & desert laden island. Therefore Charles Parker and his uneducated summation only shows his selfishness and ignorance.

GO UPSTATE! It’s not easy to go green when maintaining great patient care is also a mission of your institution. But, we’re doing our very best.

Whether we win this video competition or not, I am proud of our accomplishments at WPUNJ and support from both internal and external sources. We are also supportive of our colleagues in these efforts, particularly those at ASU, Chandler-Gilbert, Spelman, Carleton, and U of Cal. Thanks for your help, and good luck.

I voted for Allegheny College! I love how student-driven these sustainability efforts are. It’s clear that students have a voice and can really participate in the efforts of the college. The college has put a priority on sustainability and you can see that these efforts are not just in one department but throughout the entire campus.

The University of South Florida did an excellent job portraying the importance of sustainability, and gave fantastic examples of the projects they have in place to better the community. I’m delighted to see that the community that the University of South Florida has established includes a variety of campus efforts (including through their housing department), and involve all types of student involvement.

USF is the first school in the country to offer a masters degree in global sustainablility. The program pulls resources and ideas fom many of the schools on the campus and is a catalyst for sustainability.
